NACEX, the Logista Group’s Express Parcel and Document Delivery Firm, was present at the meeting organised by the Spanish Franchisers Association (AEF) on the 10th of December, as part of the 2019 Climate Summit in Madrid.

The meeting took place at the Ministry for Industry, Tourism and Commerce, and highlighted the efforts being made by the franchise sector in order to adapt its processes and products in an aim to protect the environment.  The inaugural address was made by M.ª Paz Ramos, General Director of International Commerce and Investments, who emphasised the need to bring environmentally friendly standards to the sector’s contracts and agreements.

Manel Orihuela, NACEX Deputy General Director, took part as a speaker at the round table “Franchises: sustainable adaptation and climate change,” which was the main event at the meeting.  The round table brought together 6 franchise brands that set out how they have been adapting to the new environmental regulations and what their expectations for the future were.

In his presentation, Manel Orihuela placed emphasis on the need to work in order to find a balance between current normative regulation and businesses’ real requirements. The objective: to improve the environment without undermining the day-to-day work of companies.  Accordingly, the NACEX director also highlighted the difficulties involved due to the fact that the sector does not have harmonised legislation on a national level, as well as the strong commitment to the environment that they share with their franchisees.

“The franchisees worry about the environment because the general public is worried.  The problem already exists and we must be stringent on this issue,” said Manel Orihuela. “Our franchisees ask us to involve them in the action we take to protect the environment, because there are clients who demand it too”.

The NACEX Commitment to Sustainability

NACEX is undertaking many initiatives in order to protect the environment and reduce the carbon footprint of its operations.  Examples of this, are its investment in sustainable vehicles in urban areas or the reduction in the number of last mile trips thanks to the NACEX.Shop network of pick-up and delivery points or My Preferred Delivery, which provides the consignee with the option to choose their delivery preferences, allowing them to change the original shipment delivery date, time slot and location.

NACEX participates in initiatives that promote more sustainable mobility, such as the collaborative platform “Businesses for sustainable Mobility”, composed of institutions and companies interested in leading the change towards a new energy model.

In addition, NACEX wishes to communicate its preoccupation for the environment to its clients, informing them of the carbon footprint for each one of their shipments and providing them with sustainable products such as recyclable and 100% ecological envelopes and boxes. NACEX also has a responsible procurement policy that takes into account the processes required to generate orders, their control and monitoring and compliance with delivery times, as well as the official approval and evaluation of their providers and suppliers.

The NACEX distribution hub in Coslada (Madrid) recently obtained LEED Gold certification, in full recognition of the environmental methodologies and strategies employed in the hub with relation to energy efficiency, water consumption, use of clean energy, improvement of the environmental quality inside the building, choice of materials and waste management.
