  • The company received the award from Fundación Empresa y Sociedad after collaborating with the startup Circoolar to produce blankets from its old uniforms
  • The development of the recycling and manufacture of the material ran in conjunction with various social inclusion workshops and will be used to help homeless people
  • The campaign thus reinforces Logista’s commitment to recycling, sustainability and the circular economy, preventing the generation of textile waste from materials that are difficult to recycle

Logista, Europe’s leading logistics operator, won a Scaleups B2B 2023 Award from Fundación Empresa y Sociedad, after successfully recovering and recycling more than 3.5 tonnes of material from its old uniforms. To this end, the company has collaborated with the Barcelona-based startup Circoolar, which specialises in textile recycling and developing ethical, sustainable and circular uniforms, to turn this material into blankets that were made in conjunction with various social inclusion workshops. The material will be distributed to homeless people and people at risk of social exclusion.

This initiative responds to the need to reduce textile waste, which has now become a major environmental problem. It is estimated that, globally, the equivalent of one truckload of textile waste is dumped or incinerated every second. In Spain, one million tonnes of textile waste is generated each year, equivalent to a caravan of lorries travelling from the centre of Madrid to the centre of Barcelona. Only 8-10% is recycled.

The company is committed to using textile waste as an object of social and environmental value, making it an element that can be reused and which can be used to help in social inclusion initiatives. The blankets are made from 100% traceable yarn from old waste uniforms, thus contributing to preventing this waste and using it instead as a raw material for a new product, while reducing CO2 emissions.

Juan José Guajardo-Fajardo, Human Resources, Marketing and Communication Manager commented that: “We are proud to receive this award, to contribute to sustainable development and to generate a positive impact on society through this initiative. This project, developed along with Circoolar, is proof of our bet on the circular economy and social commitment”.

“Textile is the new plastic. With Logista, we have implemented a project to recover textile waste from old uniforms, thus preventing the generation of 3.5 tonnes of waste. We are proud to receive this recognition after developing this social and environmental impact project”, said Luis Ribó, co-founder and Marketing Manager at Circoolar.
