The third edition of the NACEX Cup boat race returns on May 18th to bring together sailing lovers in the already traditional retreat celebrating the spring sunset on the Tagus, organized by the Lisbon Naval Association. The event, scheduled to start from the Belém dock at 7:00 pm, will last 90 minutes and will gather around 80 boats and over 750 participants, including professional sailors, Olympic athletes and amateur sailors.
The NACEX Sailling Team, sharing its name with the race, will compete in the race along with other outstanding teams competing in the national cruiser sailing calendar and expects to repeat the performances in previous editions, achieving a good classification. However, the competition will be tough, as the organization expects "a large influx of participants with boats ranging in size from 36 to 40 feet", says promoter Miguel Graça.
According to the responsible, participants include "some famous sailboats such as the Xeque-Mate, national champion in cruisers, or the Giulietta, which also participates in international race boats such as the Rolex Cup". Miguel Graça believes that "the participation of these teams and boats of these dimensions prove the recognition of this event’s potential as a reference for the category in the national landscape".
To repeat the success of the NACEX Cup last edition, the organization again relies on the experience of the Lisbon Naval Association, the oldest club in the Iberian Peninsula. "Currently, we almost double the number of registrations compared to the first edition. We went from 50 to 80 boats and registered an increase of over 300 participants", says Miguel Graça.
João Jales, NACEX Portugal country manager, also highlights "the growth of the race boat regarding the number of participants", which he considers essential to help promoting the category in Portugal. The NACEX country manager explains that for him, the fact of supporting this category represents the "opportunity to enhance the visibility of the brand", while he also regrets that there are no more companies willing to “give their name to teams competing in this category", it would be “an added value in competitive terms, besides contributing to "painting" landscapes such as the one we will see on May 18, with the Tagus full of boats at the end of a spring afternoon”.
The retreat will end with a "Seafood Dinner" for participants during which prizes will be delivered. "It will be an exceptional end of the afternoon in which we will be able to gather sailing lovers, both Olympic and amateur athletes, in a setting with the sunset over the Tagus and the city of Lisbon as a backdrop", says Miguel Graça, as invitation.
