  • Following implementation, NACEX has been able to mobilise a higher number of shipments per hour, with greater accuracy based on the varied typology of each shipment.

Körber has completed the development and implementation of its technology applied to the NACEX, logistics hub, Logista’s express parcel and document delivery company, in Porto, in Santo Tirso, in the north of the city. After several months of studying the project, designing the best solutions for classifying goods, and implementing and adapting different systems and technologies, the work has been completed with excellent results. In fact, thanks to the technology implemented, it has been possible to increase the hub's capacity and improve the facility’s competitiveness, as had already been achieved in other hubs such as Guarromán, in Jaén, Valencia, Zaragoza and Vitoria. The implementation of the new sorting system with technology has meant modifying the facilities, which have been expanded to 2,150 m², providing capacity for several loading and unloading bays for trucks and vans.

Due to high growth rates, facing logistics operator NACEX’s expansion plan made it vital to boost the Porto hub’s competitiveness, effectiveness and efficiency. Körber Supply Chain was therefore the ideal partner to implement a new sorter with an integrated classification system, which has enabled NACEX to increase its capacity to 6,000 shipments per hour.

The implementation of the new system with Körber technology allows the handling of any kind of shipment, from 1 millimetre in size up to more than one metre, or 200 grams to 50 kilos. Features that bring flexibility, effectiveness and efficiency to the warehouse’s operations. Control and management of the goods-in lines has been designed by Körber, as well as the programming of the sorter, which incorporates intelligent logic to distinguish the physical characteristics of the consignments (capable of detecting double, folded, and non-automatable packages), a crucial aspect in this activity. These improvements allow NACEX to get closer to the customer and optimise delivery times.

The Hub now has 32 goods-out lines, with an automatic recirculation system that quickly solves any shipment incidents. It counts on five-sided barcode scanning by means of the first colour scanner that NACEX has installed in its sorters.

"At NACEX, we focus on the satisfaction of our customers, and that is why we are committed to a strategy of continuous improvement to adapt to their needs and put the necessary resources in place to meet our commitments. Updating the Porto logistics hub is a case in point. Investing in technology and the best talent hand in hand with the best technology and the best professionals, such as the Korber team, guarantees success". Said João Jales, NACEX Portugal Country Manager.

"Through this implementation project, we have helped NACEX to strengthen its position in the market.. Commitment to meaningful investments such as this one, which combines technology with the best talent, boosts innovation and our client's competitiveness. Their satisfaction is the driving force that makes us continue to grow with them through new challenges," says Victor Garcia-Durrif, CEO of Körber Supply Chain in Spain.
