Logista Retail Expects a 20% Increase in Order and Delivery Volumes to Service Stations During the Summer
- The company will strengthen its operations to supply 4,750 petrol stations and service stations across Spain and Portugal.
- In tourist areas and high-traffic locations, replenishment frequency may increase by up to 50%, from two to three deliveries per week.
- Cold beverages, snacks and ready-to-eat food are among the categories experiencing the highest demand during summer travel.
The summer months represent one of the busiest periods of the year for service stations due to the increase in road travel during the holiday season. Against this backdrop, Logista Retail expects order and delivery volumes destined for the convenience channel to increase by 20% compared to the rest of the year.
The Logista subsidiary specialised in the wholesale distribution of convenience products notes that this growth is driven both by increased summer mobility and by the consolidation of new consumption habits linked to road travel. To meet this rise in activity, the company will reinforce its operations to supply more than 4,750 petrol stations and service stations across Spain and Portugal.
With a catalogue of more than 6,000 ambient, chilled and frozen product references, Logista Retail is particularly intensifying its activity in areas with high tourist traffic and along the main travel corridors. In these locations, replenishment frequency may increase by up to 50%, rising from the usual two deliveries per week to three, in order to meet growing demand and ensure product availability.
Service Station Shopping
Alongside the increased purchasing activity typical of the summer season, Logista Retail highlights another trend: the consolidation of service stations as a shopping channel and the emergence of new consumption patterns associated with mobility.
Travellers are looking for accessible products that are quick to purchase and easy to consume during their journey or upon arrival at their destination. As a result, convenience stores have evolved from being merely a complement to fuel sales into a regular shopping destination for people travelling by road.
This development is also strengthening the role of convenience stores within the business model of service station operators, as they become an additional source of revenue and profitability. According to Logista Retail estimates, July and August can account for nearly 25% of the annual turnover of a convenience retail outlet, making the summer campaign a strategic period for manufacturers, distributors and operators alike.
The company also estimates that convenience product distribution volumes this summer will reach levels twice as high as those recorded in 2019, before the pandemic. The 2025 summer campaign already concluded with double-digit growth compared to the previous year, confirming the ongoing transformation of the channel and its growing relevance within travel-related consumption.
Cold Beverages, Snacks and On-the-Go Consumption
Growth is being driven primarily by categories associated with consumption during travel, including cold beverages, appetisers, snacks, sweets and confectionery. These are complemented by products linked to holiday consumption and the growing on-the-go trend, such as ice cream, ready meals and other ready-to-eat food products.
These consumption trends demonstrate how travellers’ needs have diversified. Consumers no longer visit these establishments solely to refuel, but increasingly regard them as another convenient purchasing option during their journey.
Mediterranean Coast and Islands
Forecasts indicate that the islands, the Valencian coastline, the Andalusian coast and the Catalan coast will experience the highest increases in activity during the summer months. Increased activity is also expected along the main outbound and inbound travel corridors from central Spain, particularly on the A-2, A-3 and A-4 motorways and in provinces such as Toledo, Guadalajara, Ciudad Real and Albacete.
The Mediterranean corridor, via the A-7 and AP-7 motorways, also plays a significant role as one of the main routes to coastal tourist destinations.
To respond to these peaks in demand, Logista Retail adapts route planning, delivery frequencies and in-store assortments according to location, traveller profiles and demand trends.
In this way, the company strengthens its ability to anticipate the needs of each point of sale and ensure product availability during one of the key periods of the year, helping service stations further consolidate their role as convenient retail destinations for travellers.
Commercial Advisory Services: A Key Driver for Maximising Sales
Beyond its logistics capabilities, Logista Retail also strengthens its advisory and sales support services for service station operators during the summer campaign.
Drawing on its knowledge of consumer trends and the specific characteristics of each location, the company's sales team helps operators optimise product assortments, identify seasonal opportunities and tailor their offering to local consumption patterns.
This support helps improve product availability, increase stock turnover, optimise retail space and maximise opportunities during periods of peak demand, ultimately contributing to greater profitability for service stations.
"Service stations have become one of the leading convenience channels for consumers on the move. Our goal is to help operators anticipate demand, adapt their offering to each location and ensure the availability of the products travellers are looking for during one of the busiest periods of the year. To achieve this, we rely on a sales force that, in addition to its commercial activities, advises retailers on optimising assortments, identifying seasonal opportunities and tailoring their offering to the consumption profiles of each area,” said Daniel Castro Carmona, General Manager of Logista Retail.
