Logista drives technological innovation and university talent together with the ISC Racing Team

As part of its commitment to innovation and young talent, Logista has entered into a collaboration with the ISC Racing Team, the Formula Student team of Universidad Pontificia Comillas. Through Logista Parcel, the company was responsible for transporting the team’s new electric single-seater after it competed at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Formula Student is an international university engineering competition in which students from different universities design, develop and build their own racing vehicle from scratch. During the championship, the teams had to complete various dynamic tests to demonstrate the performance of their single-seaters, as well as present and defend the technical and business project behind their development.

The collaboration took place in connection with the ISC Racing Team’s participation in Formula Student Spain, held from 1 to 7 August at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmeló. Once the competition had concluded, Logista Parcel, Logista’s company specialising in controlled-temperature last-mile transport, transported the racing vehicle to Madrid together with the tools, spare parts and other logistical materials required for the project.

Two competitions over the summer

This season, the ISC Racing Team took part in two of Europe’s leading Formula Student competitions. The first was Formula Student Austria, held from 26 to 30 July, followed by Formula Student Spain, which took place from 1 to 7 August.

These vehicles, which compete in three different categories — combustion, electric and driverless or autonomous driving — are tested across a range of disciplines in which participants must demonstrate the performance, reliability and efficiency of their single-seaters, together with the technical, economic and business viability of the projects developed.

The Universidad Pontificia Comillas team is made up of 77 students from Industrial Technologies Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, and Mathematical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. Of these, a total of 25 students travelled to both competitions, which brought together around 80 university teams from different European countries.

An electric single-seater with an autonomous driving system

The vehicle developed this season, called IFS-08, is a 100% electric single-seater with an output of 80 kW, capable of reaching a top speed of 115 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.

It features a steel tubular chassis and an aerodynamic package made of carbon fibre. The battery accumulator, electronics and autonomous driving system were all developed entirely by the students of the ISC Racing Team.

Among its main technological innovations is the incorporation of LiDAR technology, which enables the autonomous system to identify and analyse elements in its surroundings. The single-seater also uses a real-time operating system to manage communication and control between the different electronic boards, as well as an optimised suspension and aerodynamics system designed to improve its dynamic performance.

Compared with the vehicle from the previous competition, the IFS-08 features a lighter chassis, new suspension geometry and several adaptations to the braking and steering systems to facilitate their mechanical integration with the autonomous system.

The team has also developed new boards to control battery voltages, a new aerodynamic package and a completely renewed driverless project, with the aim of continuing to improve the single-seater’s performance, reliability and technological capabilities.
